Childrens Trust Receives $5,000 Grant from the UPS Foundation

Bookmark and Share Thursday, October 18th, 2012

Children’s Trust received a $5,000 grant from The UPS Foundation.  The grant will be used towards fostering public policies, human-service reforms, community support and will be used to help meet the needs of vulnerable children and families through the KIDS COUNT program.

Children’s Trust of South Carolina is the grantee for the KIDS COUNT project in South Carolina.  KIDS COUNT is a major initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It provides funding and technical assistance for a nationwide network of KIDS COUNT grantee projects.  By providing high-quality data and trend analysis, KIDS COUNT seeks to enrich local, state, and national discussions concerning ways to secure better futures for all children — and to raise the visibility of children’s issues through a nonpartisan, evidence-based lens.  Currently, South Carolina ranks 43rd on the national scale of child well-being.  KIDS COUNT focuses on economic well being, education, health, and family and community.

Sue Williams, Executive Director of Children’s Trust, comments, “Donations such as this are so important to our organization and to the children of our state.  This is critical, sustaining funding to support our work.  This donation is exemplary of how it will take all of us – practitioners, lawmakers, administrators, funders, community leaders and businesses – working together to improve the lives of children.   We applaud UPS and The UPS Foundation for setting a such an commendable example.”

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, Georgia, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues.  In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving:  non-profit effectiveness, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.

In 2011 The UPS Foundation distributed more than $45.3 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs such as Children’s Trust and provide support for building stronger communities.

“The UPS Foundation is committed to funding impactful programs that make a meaningful difference in our communities – so we are proud to support Children’s Trust’s effort to improve child well-being and safety, ” said Ken Sternad, president of The UPS Foundation.

Thank you Kappa Deltas

The Children’s Trust of South Carolina was extremely honored by a recent, generous donation.  The Beta Zeta chapter of the Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of South Carolina presented the Children’s Trust with a check for more than $24,000. Joan Hoffman, Chief Operating Officer, and Felicia Easterlin, Director of Development, had the distinct pleasure of gathering with 310 Kappa Delta Sorority members for a check presentation and celebration.  We are incredibly excited and thrilled by their continued support of the Children’s Trust.

The funds are raised through their annual March shamrock events, including a gala, silent auction and golf tournament.  Rachel Drafts and Helen Shuman are the dedicated chairs of this fundraiser.

We also have to recognize the amazing talents of the Kappa Deltas who help us in our office.  Caroline Skarupa is our Picasso Project Intern.  Emily Nichols and Jordan Van Winkle are heading up a new  fundraiser called Mustaches for Kids.

This is an amazing group of talented young women.  We are so impressed by their community spirit and passion and look forward to the many great things they will do in their lives.
