Protective Factors: Bringing the Protective Factors to Life in Your Work
Developed by the National Alliance of Children’s Trust and Prevention Funds, this approach helps child welfare systems, early education and other programs work with parent to build protective factors in their work.
The protective factors are conditions in families and communities that, when present, increase the health and well-being of children and families. They serve as buffers, helping parents who might otherwise be at risk of abusing their children find resources, supports and coping strategies so that they can parent more effectively, event under stress. Depending on the needs of your group, thistraining can be customized in a complete series, a general overview or focus on a specific protective factor.
This session can be customized in a complete series of trainings or in a general overview/specific selection of how to use protective factors in your work.
Parent Cafes are a series of facilitated, small group conversations with parents and trained “host” facilitators. Cafes are designed to engage participants and help build protective factors that strengthen families and build communities.
A café will have a minimum of five sessions and content is based on the Strengthening Families Protective Factor Framework of leadership development and parent partnership. The goal is to create a safe, learning environment where participants are comfortable parenting issues that concern them.
We can train facilitators, set-up a series or customize a program for your community.
