Group holding hands

Event information

This training explores the essence of taking bold action to build relationships and ensure equitable community engagement. Relationships and trust are key building blocks for community organizing and social change, but they take work (a lot of it!), and too often, we don’t invest appropriate levels of time or energy.

Communities are complex, and the challenges they are dealing with are complex, and as a result, our work must match that complexity with bold, honest and direct solutions. Getting there requires engaging all levels of communities, ensuring those with lived experiences are at the center of our thinking and solution-finding. That is not a passive state and instead requires us to take intentional action. What roles do equity and inclusion play in this community engagement? How do we account for policies, power dynamics and systemic injustices?

This training will encourage participants to think about these questions while committing more intentionally to centering people – their voices, experiences and opinions. Forrest Alton of 1000 Feathers and Charles Weathers of The Weathers Group will present this training.
