Children’s Trust works through strategic partnership with public and private organizations to advance our mission and to seek more coordinated and improved service delivery and public policy for children. The following committees and groups highlight our most significant partnerships and relationships.

Safe Kids South Carolina Advisory Committee

The Safe Kids South Carolina Advisory Committee is an informal working group that advises the Safe Kids South Carolina local coordinating coalition on trends in unintentional injuries and other issues relevant to keeping children safe.

Safe Kids South Carolina Local Coordinating Coalitions

Safe Kids local coalitions lead their communities in reducing child injury. South Carolina is one of a few states that has a state coordinating office. Children’s Trust leads that office. Coalitions coordinate local events and activities that combine education, awareness, environmental changes and safety device distribution to get communities more involved in child safety and keep families and children safer. Each Safe Kids program has unique features and focuses on a specific injury risk areas, such as child passenger safety, bicycle safety and more.

S.C. All-terrain Vehicle Safety Collaborative

S.C. All-terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety Collaborative represents organizations from across South Carolina that are committed to improving ATV safety and reducing injury and death rates from ATV use. The group originally came together to advocate on behalf of Chandler’s ATV Law. After the passage of the law, they continue to work for strong ATV safety policies, better access to training opportunities, and increased awareness for using the right gear and right-size equipment. This group is convened by the Safe Kids South Carolina program at Children’s Trust.

S.C. Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) State Advisory Coalition

As South Carolina’s lead advisory committee for the implementation and oversight for MIECHV and evidence-based home visitation, Children’s Trust established and convenes a statewide advisory committee. This committee serves as the state’s lead advisory group home visiting. This committee works in concert with the South Carolina Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Team.

S.C. Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Team

The statewide home visiting team is responsible for collecting and updating the home visiting inventory so that there is readily available information on what models are being used and who being served through home visiting. This group also developed a universal assessment tool currently being piloted by selected sites. They also identify training needs and share best practices across all models. This committee works in concert with the South Carolina Maternal,Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Advisory Coalition.

South Carolina Safe Sleep Coalition

At the request of the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children, Children’s Trust formed a statewide Safe Sleep Coalition in January 2012. The coalition represents more than 20 organizations convening to address rising rates of unsafe sleep practices that result in injury and death for children younger than one year old. The coalition includes hospital systems, public social service agencies, nonprofit organizations and state agencies. The coalition will continue to add members that can provide leadership roles in their local communities.
