Children’s Trust made a big score March 3 with the handoff of a $7,500 check from TD Bank.

During the University of South Carolina football team’s 2019 season, TD Bank designated Children’s Trust, the statewide leader in the prevention of child abuse and neglect, as the recipient of its TD Bank Touchdowns program by making a donation for every touchdown the Gamecocks scored.

Mike Farmer, a regional vice president for TD Bank, presented the check, which represented the reward for 31 touchdowns, to Children’s Trust CEO Sue Williams and the organization’s board chair Steven Moon and vice chair Philip Vann during halftime of the men’s basketball game between USC and Mississippi State at the Colonial Life Arena.

“First of all, there’s nothing more important than preventing child abuse and neglect. I’m so glad to be a part of it,” Farmer said. “And we are glad to be a part of an organization like TD Bank, which wants to support important missions. I’m also a huge Gamecock fan so it’s great to be here and do something meaningful like this.”

TD Bank saluted the teamwork shown by Children’s Trust and its network of partners across the state to break entrenched cycles of abuse and neglect through evidence-based prevention programs that can bring about lasting change for children and families.

“We appreciate our partnership with TD Bank and their continued support of our work,” Williams said. “Their generosity helps ensure that more families are able to benefit from our programs across South Carolina.”

Moon, a Columbia attorney, spoke to the power of community support that can boost a nonprofit’s ability to fulfill its mission and have a positive impact on lives.

“It’s great to be connected with TD Bank, and we look forward to being connected with them for years to come,” Moon said. “Their support of our mission to strengthen families and help South Carolina communities continue to improve makes us really grateful. It was great to be part of the TD Bank Touchdowns program this past year. We were flattered to be selected, and it’s another good reason to pull for the Gamecocks.”
