Children’s Trust was awarded two $1,000 donations from South Carolina organizations: BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and the South Carolina Correctional Association.
Employees and association members nominated and voted for local nonprofits to receive the donations. Children’s Trust will use the money for its mission of strengthening families, organizations and communities to prevent child abuse and neglect.
The South Carolina Correctional Association (SCCA) held a silent auction to raise funds during their annual training conference in October. The two recipient organizations, including Children’s Trust, were nominated by association members.
Lyndsey Marchman, Children’s Trust grants development coordinator, accepted the SCCA donation on behalf of our organization and shared more about what this donation means to Children’s Trust: “It is very rewarding to know that we were nominated for the donation by members of the association.
After the banquet, one of the members shared her appreciation of the work we are doing with the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) to implement the Strengthening Families Program with incarcerated parents. While there are many challenges working with families with an incarcerated parent, it is critically important to help families break generational cycles of trauma and adversity and move into a place of healing.
We look forward to continuing to partner with correctional institutions to bring high-quality, evidence-based programming to families so they can become healthy, resilient and thriving.”
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina held its annual Healthy You 5K and Family Day in October, where more than 600 employees and family members attended. Those who registered for the 5K race voted on one of ten local nonprofits to win a donation from BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, and Children’s Trust was one of three winners.
“These donations are critical to advancing our mission because they can be used when and where we need them the most,” Marchman said. “This includes our work in policy and advocacy, communications and evaluation.”
