Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie declared the town a Pinwheel City Tuesday morning at a ceremony at the town hall.

The pinwheel is a national symbol of child abuse prevention. The town signed on with the Children’s Trust of South Carolina and Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center in efforts to raise awareness for child abuse prevention throughout the Palmetto State.

Throughout the month of April, the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center will be planting pinwheel gardens across the Lowcountry to spread awareness.

Joining Mayor Haynie in speaking were Sue Williams, CEO of Children’s Trust of South Carolina, Beverly Hutchison, Executive Director of Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, and Mark Arnold, Police Chief of Mount Pleasant.
