Children’s Trust will host an in-person Protective Factors training on June 25, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As a benefit to being a member of the S.C. Family Support Network, this training is offered at no cost. Organizations in attendance are responsible for travel and parking costs. The Marion Street garage, located at 1229 Marion St. between Lady St. and Gervais, offers visitor spaces on the second floor on a first come, first serve basis. Parking will be validated for the Marion Street parking garage only.
Promoting Protective Factors is a three-hour training designed to equip attendees with strategies to incorporate small but significant actions into their existing practices to help build resilience in families. Protective factors are conditions in families and communities that, when present, increase the health and well-being of children and families. They serve as buffers, helping parents who might otherwise be at risk of abusing their children find resources, support and coping strategies so that they can parent more effectively, even under stress.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this training, participants will:
- Be able to list the 5 Protective Factors that help keep families strong and prevent child abuse and neglect.
- Understand how to work with people, including families, in a strength-based way.
- Identify concrete examples of actions that promote Protective Factors.
The content has been adapted from the Children’s Trust Fund Alliance’s “Bringing the Protective Factors Framework to Life in Your Work” training.
