Milestones like birthdays and anniversaries offer an opportunity to reflect on the passage of time, celebrate personal growth, and strengthen connections with loved ones. They serve as meaningful markers in life, allowing us to appreciate where we’ve been and look forward to where we’re headed. The 40th anniversary of Children’s Trust has done just that for me.

We have a lot to be proud of in South Carolina as we work to support families, build strong communities, and eliminate child maltreatment. Today, we know so much more than we did in 1984. Our knowledge about the science of prevention has increased dramatically. We now know about brain science, the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences, and how Protective Factors and Positive Childhood experiences can mitigate them. We also know how to effectively implement evidence-based programs using data to provide continuous quality improvements that ensure successful outcomes.

Children’s Trust is fortunate to have an army of talented and committed individuals who stand with us. Seventeen board members, many program coordinators, multiple nonprofit collaborators and coalition members, public and private funders, and prominent state leaders, all of whom show up committed to our mission and prove that prevention happens best in partnership.

We have great hope for the future of children and families in our great state, and hope is powerful when matched with action. As we look forward to our 50th anniversary, let’s make this next decade count for the children and families of South Carolina. They need you—your voice, your support, and your continued commitment to make South Carolina a place where every child has the opportunity to thrive!

Join us to build a better future and together, we can prevent child abuse in South Carolina.
