Children’s Trust of South Carolina
About Us
Children’s Trust of South Carolina is the statewide organization focused on the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
Our Mission
Strengthening Families, Organizations and Communities to Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect
Our Vision
A South Carolina Where Every Child Thrives
Children’s Trust is the only statewide organization focused on preventing child abuse and neglect in South Carolina. We lead and support a network of community-based organizations, which share the belief that all children should thrive, live in secure families and be surrounded by supportive communities.
As an intermediary organization focused on prevention, Children’s Trust is the statewide advocate for issues critical to South Carolina’s children. We provide resources and technical support to our prevention partners and create and share messages about prevention. We award grants to private nonprofit organizations and qualified state agencies to fund a broad range of innovative child abuse and neglect prevention programs to meet the critical needs of South Carolina’s children. We also support and fund proven prevention programs, conduct high-quality data and trend analysis, and offer training for professionals so they have the tools they need to help children and families across the state.
Our Origin Story
The South Carolina General Assembly, with Governor Richard Riley’s signature, laid our originating cornerstone more than 40 years ago with the statute (see Article 9) that established the Children’s Trust Fund of South Carolina. Our charge was clear – “invest in innovative prevention programs that will prevent child abuse and neglect in South Carolina.”
In 2008, three legacy organizations merged: Voices for South Carolina’s Children, Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina and the Children’s Trust Fund of South Carolina. They recognized an opportunity to be stronger together.
In the unique position of a state-sanctioned non-profit with a governor-appointed board of directors, we leverage federal, state and private funding to maximize prevention investments in South Carolina. We are the South Carolina home to the South Carolina Home Visiting Coalition, Adverse Childhood Experiences Initiative, KIDS COUNT, the National Family Support Network, and Triple P South Carolina.
Over the decades, we have celebrated many milestones.
