The press conference will be held at 10 am in the First Floor Lobby.

The event, hosted by Children’s Trust of South Carolina with support from state officials, will emphasize the need for stronger child abuse prevention efforts and more community involvement.

Speakers at the press conference will include legislators, S.C. Department of Social Services Interim Director Tony Catone, State Child Advocate Amanda Whittle, Children’s Trust CEO Sue Williams, and other advocates.

They will discuss ways South Carolina can strengthen families and reduce child abuse.

“As leaders, we must ensure that every child in our state grows up in a safe, loving environment,” said Interim S.C. Department of Social Services Director Catone. “This month is a reminder that preventing child abuse is not just the responsibility of one individual, agency or organization—it requires all of us to be vigilant, supportive and proactive.”

“To ensure every child has the chance to grow up healthy and safe, we must all work together. No one group can do it alone, but together we can build a better future for children and families,” said Sue Williams, CEO of Children’s Trust.

Governor Henry McMaster will also proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in South Carolina.

Attendees are encouraged to support local prevention programs, protect children, and wear blue on Friday, April 4, to show solidarity against child abuse.
