CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Mayor William Cogswell will officially declare Charleston as a Pinwheel City, joining forces with the Children’s Trust of South Carolina and the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center to raise awareness for child abuse prevention across the state.
The declaration will take place on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Lake, located at the corner of Rutledge Avenue and Broad Street.
The pinwheel has become the national symbol for child abuse prevention, representing the hope for great childhoods for children in communities nationwide. Throughout April, the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center will plant pinwheel gardens and promote awareness of child abuse prevention efforts across the Lowcountry.
Sue Williams, the chief executive officer of the Children’s Trust of South Carolina, and Beverly Hutchison, Executive Director of the Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, will join Mayor Cogswell for the event. Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker will also be in attendance.
