Event information

This event is closed to the public. This training is only open to Parent Advisory Council (PAC) members and designated support staff.

Parent Café training for State PAC members will be held from July 17 to July 19, 2024, at Children’s Trust of South Carolina. Training will be on Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday, July 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Parent Cafés are vehicles for parents to have conversations about keeping their children safe and families strong. Parent Cafés are based on the Strengthening Families™ Protective Factors framework that has been shown to help prevent child abuse and neglect and to build family strengths. Parent Cafés are a structured process whereby parents/caregivers learn from the wisdom of peers and from themselves, and also deeply reflect on how they are living/implementing the five protective factors in their homes and lives.

This two-and-a-half-day experiential and highly interactive training prepares participants to convene and conduct Parent Cafés, serve as café and table hosts, and empower parents/caregivers to live the protective factors. Table hosts and café hosts are trained to create an emotionally safe, non-judgmental environment where parents have the space and time to reflect on their lives, grapple with the challenges of raising children, develop positive strategies and solutions, and celebrate and acknowledge their own strengths.
