Senator Shealy introduced S. 612 which amends the Children’s Code to reflect improved practices and family-centered philosophies and always to ensure the welfare and safety of children.

The bill acknowledges the different levels of intervention for families ranging from strengthening and supporting an endangered child’s family with services to swift and timely permanency in another home when removal is necessary. It also protects children living in public and private residential agencies and institutions. It further clarifies that failure or inability to meet timeframes for investigations and determinations shall not constitute grounds for dismissal of any judicial or administrative proceeding brought pursuant to this chapter.

The bill was referred to the Committee on Children and Family Services.
