As part of their oversight role, Children’s Trust board members have the opportunity to visit and hear from our funded partners. At their annual board retreat, members toured sites in the Charleston area.
Landmarks for Children, formerly Carolina Youth Development Corporation, has been serving children and families for centuries. Its roots date back to the late 1790s, when it began as the Charleston Orphan House. The organization now serves the whole family through family education, preservation, residential and reunification services, serving families in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties.
Landmarks Executive Director Cindy Hunter and Vice President of Family Resources Kristen Rossino shared their success in implementing the Strengthening Families Program and in operating their family resource center, as members of the South Carolina Family Support Network.
Board members also visited with the home visiting team at the Northwoods Clinic of MUSC, where the team delivers two home visiting programs: Nurse-Family Partnership and Healthy Families America. Board members heard from Dr. Lemon and Dr. Edmundson about the benefits of working in a medical setting, and from program supervisors Leticia Urroz and Lindsay Odella about the positive impact of home visiting on enrolled families.
