Home Visiting in South Carolina (MIECHV)
Home Visiting
A service delivery strategy that works to improve the health and well-being of children and their families.
Children’s Trust administers the federal investment in home visiting for South Carolina – the Maternal Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program. We also lead work force development for the state’s home visiting professionals.
How Home Visiting Works
Professionals work one-on-one with mothers in their homes and can quickly assess what a family might need. By building healthy families, we give babies a strong start in life so they have the best chance to grow into contributing, productive members of our communities.
The home visiting specialists assist mothers and their young children with a wide range of issues – including health concerns, developmental milestones, safety environment, school preparedness and economic self-sufficiency – during home visits and pediatric visits. Home visitors generally have a background in nursing, social work or child development.
Children’s Trust helps determine which models to use and where the need is the greatest. We work hand-in hand with our partners guiding them through the technical aspects of delivering evidence-based programs, providing coaching and technical assistance.
Children’s Trust supports three evidence-based home visiting models – Healthy Families America, Nurse-Family Partnership and Parents as Teachers. Many of the program models serve at-risk, low-income mothers.
