Ensuring that All Families in South Carolina Can Walk Into the Help They Need

Family resource centers are community-based hubs that offer a wide range of services and resources to support families, including parenting education, job training, mental health support, and access to essential resources like food and clothing, all designed to promote child and family well-being.

Family resource centers (FRCs) offer trusted, local support—connecting families in South Carolina to education, essentials and hope through community-based care. For many families across the state, FRCs serve as a lifeline.

These enters operate in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, churches, community centers and other organizations. They offer a range of services to help meet their communities’ needs: parenting programs, job training, mental health support, access to essentials like food and clothing, and more.

“I’m always excited to see people come into the FRC to get what they need,” said Carrington Butler, administrative assistant at Family Solutions of the S.C. Office of Rural Health in Orangeburg. “Because if we can make one person’s life easier, we can make everybody’s lives easier.”

At Children’s Trust of South Carolina, we know families are stronger when communities are strong. That’s why we’ve invested in family resource centers—safe, welcoming spaces where caregivers can get support without judgment. Whether a family needs parenting help, food access or a connection to mental health services, these centers meet them where they are.

Children’s Trust convenes the S.C. Family Support Network with the goal of building the capacity of family serving organizations by promoting best practices, standards of quality, capacity building, peer learning and programming initiatives.
