In April 1984, the General Assembly established Children’s Trust of South Carolina to stimulate a wide range of innovative child abuse and neglect prevention programs and meet the critical needs of the state’s children by awarding grants to private nonprofit organizations.
Among many people who came together to establish Children’s Trust, two men were particularly important.
South Carolina Governor Dick Riley signed legislation on April 23, 1984, that created what is now the Children’s Trust of South Carolina. David Beasley served as one of the House Representatives who introduced the originating legislation.
Forty years later, they reflect on the organization’s founding and future.
