South Carolina Becomes 27th State to Offer a State-Level Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). A nonrefundable EITC worth 125 percent of the federal credit was added to the infrastructure funding package (H. 3516) to mitigate the burden of the proposed gas tax on lower-income workers. Governor Henry McMaster vetoed the legislation for reasons unrelated to the EITC, and the General Assembly overrode his veto. The bill goes into effect July 1.
