Each April, Child Abuse Prevention Month is our opportunity to celebrate the partnerships that make prevention possible and raise awareness to build the collective responsibility for neglect and abuse prevention.

We thank Gov. McMaster for declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. From the statehouse to your neighborhood, we all must work together to build the systems, communities and relationships that help families help their children.

Governor's Proclamation for Child Abuse Prevention Month

Governor Henry McMaster proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month on April 30, 2024.

This April, we supported nearly 180 partners statewide, including community-based organizations and every S.C. Department of Social Services county office. We awarded mini-grants to 29 organizations and community leadership grants to three organizations: Children’s Place, Inc., Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center and Greer Relief.

We thank all our local partners who issued proclamations, hosted community events, shared awareness materials with families and donated. Thank you for making child and family well-being a priority across this great state.

We appreciate this opportunity to stand with you, and we value your partnership in this work – in April and throughout the year.

Finally, we thank our CAP Month sponsors, the S.C. Department of Social Services and the Administration for Children & Families, as well as Abacus Planning Group, Dorothy D. Smith Charitable Foundation, Founders Federal Credit Union, Prisma Health, Nora Roberts Foundation, Patrick Family Foundation, AFL Global and First Reliance Bank.
