The Senate introduced S. 672, the Help Find the Missing Act, which includes that Law Enforcement agencies may not establish or maintain policies that require a waiting period before accepting and investigating a missing child report and must enter the reports into the National Crime Information Center. The bill was referred to the Judiciary Committee.
The Senate Family and Veterans’ Services Committee gave a favorable report to legislation that would dissolve the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) state commission and make the agency part of the Governor’s cabinet. DDSN utilizes a network of 41 county-based local disabilities and special needs boards for service delivery. The Family and Veterans’ Services Committee plans to continue hearing testimony over the next few weeks to determine how to best restructure the local boards to make them true private providers, while at the same time maintaining existing health insurance coverage and state retirement plan benefits.
The next meeting of the Family and Veteran’s Services Select Subcommittee on DDSN will be held on Wednesday, March 29 at 9 a.m. in the Gressette building, room 308. A live broadcast is available.
