Two new members of the Committee were announced. Rep. Raye Felder (R-York) replaced Rep. Mandy Kimmons (R-Dorchester) and Bronwyn McElveen replaced Marie Land.
The Director of Health and Human Services, Robbie Kerr, testified on Feb. 1 in front of the Committee on Children. Kerr’s testimony centered around school-based mental health services. He addressed provider capacity issues; currently, there are only 360 mental health counselors for 1200 schools in South Carolina. He also spoke about billing issues, such as families receiving bills for mental health services provided at the school.
Committee members decided to discuss the workforce and insurance issues at their next meeting.
