As a part of supporting children and families, Molina Healthcare of South Carolina employees recently donated $6,675 through a political action committee match to Children’s Trust.

The contribution will help fund the Children’s Trust mission that uses proven strategies to build strong families and thriving communities, which can play a key role in the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Molina has collaborated with Children’s Trust on various initiatives and programs since 2015, which include sponsorships of Child Abuse Prevention Month each April and the biennial Building Hope for Children Conference.

“South Carolina’s children and families need us more than ever in the midst of this devastating pandemic,” Children’s Trust CEO Sue Williams said. “We are very grateful for Molina’s recent donation, which is a part of its longstanding commitment and generous support for our work to strengthen families and communities across the state. Partners like Molina ensure that we have the necessary resources to provide help to local organizations and the families that all of us serve.”

Beverly Hamilton, AVP of government contracts for Molina and a board member at Children’s Trust, noted the company is invested in each of the states where it operates by showing a passion for helping others through its managed health care services under the Medicaid and Medicare programs and the state insurance marketplaces. Employees are asked to donate, and each state’s operation can designate a preferred nonprofit organization. In South Carolina, Children’s Trust is an option.

“Many of the issues we address are shared issues, strengthening families and strengthening laws that meet the needs of families,” Hamilton said. “We have done a good job of explaining the role of Children’s Trust in South Carolina, and how the goals and the mission align with Molina’s. The donations reflect a recognition of what Children’s Trust is doing.”

Molina works to support at-risk and vulnerable children and families, something the home visiting and family strengthening programs of Children’s Trust also accomplish through the direct services of its funded partners in communities across the state.

Hamilton notes these programs teach life skills, bonding skills and communications skills that ensure families become stronger and more cohesive.

“All families could benefit from these programs,” she said.
