Lawmakers Receive Awards for Child Passenger Safety Commitment

Children’s Trust handed out awards to four state senators Jan. 25 at the Gressette Building in recognition of their efforts as sponsors of a bill on child passenger safety that became law last May: Sen. Katrina Shealy, R-Lexington; Sen. Brad Hutto, D-Orangeburg; Sen. Thomas Alexander, R-Oconee; and Sen. Thomas McElveen, D-Sumter.

The law more closely adheres to the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations on age, height and weight limits for infants and young children in car seats. Children’s Trust hosted a Child Passenger Safety Summit in Oct. 2017 that brought together 180 CPS technicians for training and updates. Rep. Beth Bernstein, D-Richland, was given her award as a bill sponsor at that event.
