As South Carolina’s leader in the prevention of child abuse, neglect and injuries, Children’s Trust hosted its biennial Prevention Conference at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center October 2-3, 2017.

This two-day event is designed to help home visitors, social workers, counselors, program administrators and other child-serving professionals with their work keeping children safe and families strong.

Resilience: A Documentary

The conference included a showing of the film Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope by Karen Pritzker and James Redford. The film examines movement among pediatricians, educators and communities who are using the study of adverse childhood experiences to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease.

Conference video and story

With a theme of “Embracing Prevention, Empowering Communities,” the two-day event featured national and state experts who emphasized the role everyone plays in keeping children safe through four keynote speeches and 40 breakout sessions.

The variety of topics included child brain development, adverse childhood experiences, home visiting, race equity and inclusion, protective factors and fatherhood engagement. Check out our video and story that capture this great event.

Child Passenger Safety Summit video and story

As part of the Prevention Conference, Children’s Trust also hosted the Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Summit on Oct. 3. The summit featured speakers and trainers addressing the most current information regarding safety regulations, equipment training, and updates from manufacturers. This training offered continuing education units so that child passenger safety technicians can maintain their certification and continue serving thousands of families through car seat safety.
